Our History at a Glance
For more than 20 years Academy of Learning has been recognized as a training leader, offering a wide range of training programs that is relied on by students, employers and government agencies.
In 1987 the first Academy of Learning College opened in Thornhill, Ontario, and expanded out west to British Columbia in 1990. Today, college locations can be found across Canada in PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and British Columbia.
At Academy of Learning, our unique training approach and visionary initiatives have attributed to our success by identifying the gap between a formal education and the realities of the working world. Our distinct approach to learning shifts away from teaching in the traditional lecture format to an on-site, facilitated, learning-by-doing method. This approach to training encompasses comprehensive vocational diploma programs along with short, effective certificate courses.
Our standardized curriculum is consistent across our network of colleges throughout Canada, which has been developed by the Academic Division at our Regional Franchisor Office, and is delivered through the Integrated Learning™ System (ILS) – a competency-based method of learning that integrates all five senses. Students learn by doing, not by just listening. ILS is exclusive to Academy of Learning. Our customized programs allow us to meet the need for convenient and effective training at an affordable cost to the student.
Today Academy of Learning offers more than 35 diploma programs that are delivered in a variety of ways. This includes written material, online instruction, audio lectures, and simulated labs. In addition, students have access to all of the required equipment and material to successfully complete their program, along with the support provided by certified instructors/facilitators.
